Interior Design Awards Season 2022

This very week BIID is staging its first ever Interior Design Awards. Hosted by Amber Butchart of ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’ and ‘A Stitch in Time’ fame, and held in the swish Drapers’ Hall, London, the event promises to be suitably fabulous. So much so, that we wouldn’t be surprised if an A-list star turns up and slaps someone.

If you’re not sure who Amber is, then you should be ashamed of yourself. Her credentials are so up there, they’ve got altitude sickness. She’s worked in the design community as a curator, writer and broadcaster, teaches, and holds proper, serious talks and presentations. She’s also a former Research Fellow brainbox at UAL, and has worked for The Guardian, Times Literary Supplement, Financial Times and BBC Culture, to namedrop but a few. Amber also scribbles features on the politics of dress and design for the contemporary art magazine Frieze, so don’t get into an argument with her, okay!

We’re dead chuffed that Amber signed on the dotted line, and we can’t wait to see her on the big day.

With eight projects shortlisted across seven regional categories, the nominees demonstrate ‘outstanding examples of interior design projects which have not only successfully met the design brief, but also shown creative design solutions and an array of technical skills.’

The regional categories encompass Central London, Greater London, the Midlands, the North and North West, the South West, the South East, and last, but most certainly not least, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The shortlist is a roll-call of outstanding achievement, and just like the Oscars, to make it this far is a win in itself.

Book your ticket now before it’s too late. But we’re not finished yet…

…because hot on the BIID’s heels, are the Dezeen awards for 2022. We love the Dezeen Awards every little bit as much as we love Dezeen itself, because they don’t leave any area of ID uncovered. The categories include house interior, apartment interior, civic and cultural interior – we could go on, but we don’t have the space. There’s even a small interior, for goodness sake, so you get the picture – Dezeen are thorough. The design bible has announced this year’s shortlist, which includes interiors by Kelly Wearstler, Cox Architecture and Studio MK27.

Fifty-seven projects have made it on to the list, which are located in 24 different countries including Ukraine, Japan, Canada, South Korea, and Sweden.

And another brilliant thing about the Dezeen Awards – for the third year running, there’s a public vote for readers to be able to choose their own favourite projects. This public vote kicked off on 12th September, and is still going on, so let your voice be heard. The public vote can be accessed by clicking here, but the poll closes on October 10th, so do it now, people! Click here to see how the voting’s going so far.

The public vote winners will be announced by Dezeen between the 17th and 21st October. This is entirely separate to the main Dezeen Awards 2022, which are decided by Dezeen’s own jury of renowned industry professionals. These ID gurus will let their decisions be known at the Dezeen Awards in late November. Champagne is de rigueur.

Meanwhile, we can’t leave you without a shout-out to the 2022 FX International Interior Design Awards – which take place on 30 November, 2022, at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London. The Mustard team will be there in person and we can’t wait to enjoy the evening’s proceedings with all the nominees!
