The Interior Design Hospitality Trend List 2024

What’s hot and sexy for hotels and restaurants

Interior design in hospitality has many battles to fight – not least that irritating truism “Well, you can’t please everyone!” Because one thing’s for sure, in the world of hotel and restaurant ID, you’re going to have to delight an awful lot of those ‘everyones’. And alongside the challenge of attracting a kaleidoscope of clientele, interiors have to remain standout for way longer than a year or two.

This also means that while they can mimic the hottest home interior fashions to an extent, a unique look is key to pulling in visitors until the next costly refurbishment comes around. The best hospitality interior designers understand that this will be a long time, because closed doors mean zero revenue.

With this in mind, we’re taking a look at how hotels and restaurants are aiming to catch the eye of hospitality customers with styling to stand the test of time. A number of ID industry gurus recently passed on their sage predictions for the year ahead, so without further ado, here’s the interior design hospitality trend list for 2024.

Cultural crossovers

Number one on the list points towards restaurants that are increasingly blending culinary traditions from around the world. This trend is reflected in their interior design, where guests will experience diverse cultural influences, which will mix unexpected combinations together for a truly immersive and exclusive experience.

A great example of this is Ometeo – an upscale Stateside Tex-Mex restaurant designed by GrizForm. The design brief included an outdoor bar and multiple dining rooms decorated with antique, vintage, and handmade artisan goods.

Verdict: a stunning, one-off crowd pleaser.

Mixology

The rising popularity of eye-catching craft cocktails is starting to influence restaurant and bar design. Dramatic lighting and stunning backdrops will transport visitors to a different drinking dimension, where guests will experience visually stunning bar setups with dynamic lighting, eye-catching furniture and fixtures that enhance the experience.

A case in point is London’s Twice Shy, near Earl’s Court station. Here visitors will find a brushed wooden backing to the drinks display, with a black granite counter where all that cocktail alchemy takes place. This is all beautifully illuminated by soft neo-deco lighting.

Verdict: exclusive, with a lorry load of ambience.

The urban oasis

A word to the wise – more than ever, people yearn to relax and escape from the hassle of the day. And this points to one thing – rooftop gardens, indoor green walls and al fresco dining are going nowhere. Especially in the city.

This continuing trend, like everything else in hospitality, is aligning itself closely with sustainability.

The Forbes experts are also focusing on how hospitality spaces are blending into their environment. This allows these spaces to “break free from their brand concept”, and “in doing so, they discover a fresh identity that seamlessly melds with the unique character of their locale and its surroundings.”

Making this look easy is lifestyle aparthotel brand Locke’s fabulous addition, Ember Locke in London. Locke is championing local design and community as “part of its ethos”. Ember Locke only opened last year with interiors by Atelier Ochre and House of Dré.

Verdict: a 1920s Kensington success story.
