What we’re looking for

mustard plan to bring in in 3 new Trainees to start with us in the summer of 2021 with this year’s graduate intake scheme, so we’re looking to hear from people now with the following attributes in preparation:

– 2:2 (MIN)
– Degree in one of the following: marketing, business, design (architecture, interiors etc).
– Previous customer service experience (I.E retail, hospitality etc)
– Ambitious, self-motivated and resilient

However, if you can justify to us why you think your degree/studies would correlate to or help you in this role, we’d still be keen to hear from you.

Have you ever thought about Recruitment?

Recruitment is a great stepping stone for someone who is wanting to build a career but is unsure of where or how to start. If you’re determined, self-motivated and ready to make money, recruitment is a fantastic kick start into the world of work and teaches you a variety of professional skills such as client liaison, negotiation, sales and presentation which can be applied to a multitude of different job roles.

What can you expect from us?

Progression – We here at mustard think it’s important to nurture the talent we have, so being able to offer our staff progression and allowing them to push their careers forward is something we take pride in. We promote from within our business meaning that everyone working at mustard has earned or is currently earning their stripes.

Training – Due to the nature of our hiring techniques, we offer full training to cover all elements of recruitment and the sectors we recruit for. This 4-6-week training course is hands on, interactive and must be completed by all new starters.

Support – As well as being transparent about our growth plans and business goals with our employees, we also support a very collaborative and approachable office culture. Our internal Trainer, experienced Consultants and hands on Directors are available to answer questions and assist with the growth of any new starter.

Commission & Incentives – The most renowned perk of pursuing a career in recruitment is the commission and incentives that agencies provide their staff, and mustard are no exception! With incentives ranging from all expenses paid trips to places such as Cancun, Miami and Iceland, to having a bacon sandwich delivered straight to your desk, it’s not difficult to maintain motivation and keep pushing towards your targets. We also have an uncapped commission structure which allows you to top up your monthly pay-check depending on your performance!

Case Studies

We have a number of success stories from our previous Graduate intakes, so who better to tell you about the experience…

Martha Mackie – Recruitment Researcher – mustard be (London, Architecture)

What/Where did you study?

I studied Classics at Bristol University

What did you do between Graduating and mustard?

I travelled around Poland with a friend and then flew to Inverness where I did the NC500 with my boyfriend. While I was studying I worked in bars and restaurants. I then set up a business offering PA services until covid hit, and then travelled up North to plant some trees.

What was your plan after Uni originally?

I wasn’t completely sure, so I made sure to do everything that caught my eye! I wanted to try as many things as possible to see what I enjoyed. Better to just do than spend forever thinking about doing!

How did you come across mustard/what was the recruitment process like?

I came across mustard via LinkedIn. I applied and heard back almost immediately. The recruitment process was thorough. I had about 5 interviews total which allowed me to have a really good feel of the company and by the time I started the team didn’t feel like complete strangers. I was also lucky enough to start with other trainees so felt completely comfortable. Compared with some of the other interviews I had for recruitment, mustard was such a welcome relief!

How long have you been at mustard?

I’ve been at mustard for two months now.

How has mustard helped you/What has mustard done for you?

Working at mustard has taught me so much about the world of architecture. I really enjoy getting to speak with fascinating people about what they love, because their passion is infectious! Looking through portfolios is so interesting! There’s some really ground-breaking work happening out there and having a part in that is a great feeling.

What are your goals at mustard now?

To continue to learn and grow! Finding candidates their dream positions and my clients their ideal candidates is the goal!

Jamie Rogers – Talent Partner – mustard xp (Events & Exhibitions, South West & Midlands)

What/Where did you study?

I studied Law and Politics at Cardiff University.

What did you do between Graduating and mustard?

Cried about finishing Uni, moved back to Bristol, took a few weeks off to watch the World Cup and then started with mustard.

What was your plan after Uni originally?

To continue studying Law and an LPC. I spoke to a few mates who had gone into recruitment after finishing University and decided it would be a quicker route to start earning a decent salary.

How did you come across mustard/what was the recruitment process like?

I applied with mustard online, I came in for an initial chat with the HR team, to have a look around the office and to get a feel for the company. I then had an interview with the Directors and was offered the job. Compared to the other recruitment agencies I interviewed with, it felt a lot more welcoming and it was nice to start with 3 other grads at the same time.

How long have you been at mustard?

I started at mustard on August 21st 2018 – the best day in mustard’s 10 year + history to date.

How has mustard helped you/What has mustard done for you?

When I started with mustard, we had a four-week training plan to introduce us to the various sectors mustard cover. Since then I’ve developed my knowledge of my specialist sector (events & exhibitions) by speaking with industry professionals on a daily basis, but also by picking up insights and tips from colleagues here who have recruited the same sector for a number of years. mustard continue to provide internal and external training even once you are a fully-fledged consultant, with the mantra of never being the finished article.

What are your goals at mustard now?

I’d like to make Senior Consultant by this time next year, mainly so I can have control of the office Spotify account.
